Global Best Practice to help drive Investment Product Innovation in Asia


As a result of a number of long term trends that ING Real Estate has identified they anticipate that they will continue to grow their Asian investment business over the years ahead. First investors are seeking to expand their focus as the industry continues to mature. Secondly ING Real Estate believes that the demand for lower risk investments products that are similar to those available to investors in their home markets will continue to grow. Finally the company expects Asian institutional capital to expand its focus and seek greater exposure to investment opportunity in global real estate markets.

To date the overwhelming majority of investment funds offered to investors in Asia have been closed end and opportunistic in nature. ING Real Estate in Asia is looking to leverage its global investment management network and the world’s largest real estate investment portfolio to bring innovative investment products to the fast growing economies of the Asian region.

From experience garnered in the mature markets of Europe and the United States, the company is structuring and rolling out a series of new investment products which aim to export best practice in the areas of investment strategy, fund reporting, valuation and performance measurement. These industry leading techniques have been developed over a number of years. As the company’s clients continue to seek an ever expaning range of global investment opportunities, ING Real Estate is committed to ensuring that a client’s investment experience is as consistent as possible from region to region. This includes third party appraisals of all portfolio assets every quarter, which allows investors to invest in new open end strategies based on the current underlying value of the assets.

ING Real Estate will continue to launch a range of closed end and open end investment products for its institutional client base. Open end funds to execute core, core plus and value added strategies with more opportunistic strategies designed to capture specific market or property type opportunities in a closed end format. It has recently launched the first pan Asian private equity real estate vehicle offering investors value added returns in an open end format.
